Hotel tea set

Design challenge

The focus of this project was on material research and production techniques. By asking and answering critical questions about the design and detailing of the product, the materialisation had to be improved. The client’s request was to design a hotel service set for an Okura style hotel chain. The product esthetic was to be inspired by Christopher Dresser, Peter Behrens and the Art Deco movement.

Detailing

The hotel set is made of aluminium alloys and a  steel alloy with chrome and nickel. These material choices are made to prevent corrosion and to make construction as easy as possible. Various shaping and casting techniques have been chosen to produce the hotel service  set. The whole set has a glossy appearance that exudes sophistication, craftsmanship and luxury.
